Belfield House is a grade II* listed Georgian country house, which was at great risk before a private client instructed JSCP. Our services included liaising with English Heritage and Weymouth & Portland Borough Council to obtain planning permission and listed building consent as well as site supervision.
The extensive scheme of structural refurbishment of this long neglected building included full re-roofing, much work to the ashlar stone exterior detailing, major timber repairs to the ground, first and second floors, and the ‘undoing’ of the partial 1990’s renovation of the lower ground floor.
The works also included some minor internal alterations and a small extension to the Victorian conservatory. These alterations were intended to make Belfield compatible with twenty-first century life and in the case of the conservatory breakfront staircase the whole of the lower ground floor became easily accessible and very much an integral part of the house and how it is lived in.
Belfield House won the 2010 Civic Society Award
